Description

Radiant Portuguese Sea Salt Fine is hand-harvested using the methods practiced by the Romans over 2000 years ago, from the Natural Reserve Ria Formosa in The Algarve, southern region of Portugal. Large salt pans are exposed to the sun and the dried crystallised salt is harvested by hand using large wooden rakes. It is then transported to the local plant where it is milled, hand selected and packed into bags. This salt is not processed in any way nor are additives such as caking agents added.

The resulting sea salt has a brilliant white, opaque colour but is totally unrefined. Dried only by the wind and sun it is naturally moist, retaining all its original compositional characteristics.

It is known for its highest quality natural unprocessed salt produced from salt basins using age-old methods by the Romans some 2000 years ago. Dried by wind and sun, it is naturally moist with all its natural goodness.

What minerals can be found in the traditional salt?

Almost all minerals present in seawater is found, in trace amounts, in traditional sea salt. One can argue that the amounts are so low as to be negligible. However, consider that it is possible to grow marine organisms, such as coral, in tap water with traditional sea salt added, yet these same organisms quickly die in a solution of tap water and regular sea salt.

For all the minerals present, the most notable is magnesium, an essential nutrient in a balanced diet. Lack of magnesium has been tied to mental disorders and depression. As there are very few magnesium sources in food, its presence in salt is important; rock salt and regular sea salt lack any magnesium content.

*Radiant whole food takes it upon themselves to have its sea salt laboratory tested to ensure it does not have heavy metals or pesticides. Ask for the certification and lab reports.
